21230 is a private matchmaking community for young Africans in the diaspora aged 21 to 30. When you apply, you tell us a great deal about your life. This notice explains, in plain language, what we collect, why we need it, who can see it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who is responsible for your information
21230, which operates the website at 21230match.com, is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. 21230 is run from Ireland by its founder, who appears publicly as Aunty Flaky and personally reviews every application.
If you need the full registered contact details of the person legally responsible for your information, ask us using the contact form on our homepage and we will give them to you.
How to contact us about your information
Use the contact form at the bottom of 21230match.com and mark your message "Data request". If you have already applied, you can also reply directly to any email you receive from us. We aim to respond to any request about your information within one month, as required by data protection law.
What we collect and why
Almost all of the information we hold is information you type into the application form yourself. We do not buy information about you, and we do not collect it from other people.
| What we collect | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your name, age, city and country, and cultural background | To confirm you are within the 21 to 30 age range, and to understand who we would be introducing and where |
| Your email address, telephone or WhatsApp number, and preferred contact method | To reply to your application, arrange your verification call and contact you about a possible introduction |
| Your occupation, education, training and future study plans | To understand the shape and direction of your life, as one consideration among many when looking for someone compatible |
| What you are looking for, your relationship intentions, preferred partner age range, relocation, dealbreakers and non negotiables | To match you with someone who wants the same kind of relationship |
| Your views on family, partnership roles, finances, conflict, parenting, and what past relationships taught you | To judge genuine compatibility rather than surface similarity. These are the answers the matching actually rests on |
| Information about your faith, where you choose to give it | Only to match you with someone whose beliefs and expectations fit yours. This is optional and you can leave it blank |
| Your declaration that you are currently single, and your acknowledgements about privacy, safety and honesty | To record the basis on which we accepted your application |
| Notes we make when we review your application or speak to you on a verification call | To keep track of our own review and any introductions we consider |
| Messages you send through the homepage contact form | To answer your question |
Information about faith and beliefs
Information about religious beliefs is treated as a special category of personal data under the GDPR and is given extra protection. The faith question on our application form is optional. If you choose to answer it, we rely on your explicit consent to use that answer, and we use it only to consider compatibility. You can withdraw that consent at any time and we will remove it.
Please do not send us more than we ask for
We do not ask for, and do not want, your bank account or card details, government identity numbers, health records, or details of anyone else's private life. Please do not include them in a free text answer.
Payment information
Applying to 21230 is free. If we decide to proceed with your application, we send you a private payment link for membership, which is paid before your private video call.
Your card details never touch this website. Payment happens on Stripe's own secure page. We never see, hold or store your card number. What we receive from Stripe is your name, your email address, the amount, and the date the payment succeeded, so that we know your membership has started and when it ends.
Our lawful basis for handling payment records is the performance of our contract with you, and our legal obligation to keep accurate accounting records. Stripe processes your payment as an independent controller for its own fraud prevention and regulatory duties, under its own privacy policy.
Our lawful basis for using your information
- Consent. You choose to send us an application, and you tick a box confirming you have read this notice. Consent is our basis for holding and reviewing your application and for considering you for introductions. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Explicit consent. For information about faith, which is a special category of data, where you choose to provide it.
- Legitimate interests. For keeping basic records of who we have reviewed and why, for keeping the service safe, and for dealing with complaints or misconduct. We balance this against your privacy and keep such records to a minimum.
- Legal obligation. Where a law requires us to keep or disclose information, for example in response to a valid legal request.
How your information is used in matching
Aunty Flaky reads your application personally. If your application progresses, we arrange a private video call. When we believe two people may suit each other, we discuss the possibility with each of you separately.
We do not share your information with another member unless you agree to it first. Nothing about you is published on the website, on social media or anywhere else. Applicants do not appear on camera in any 21230 content.
Matching decisions are made by a person. We do not use automated decision making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects for you.
Who can see your information
- Aunty Flaky, and any person helping to run 21230 who is bound to keep your information confidential.
- Another member, but only the specific details you have agreed we may share, and only after you have said yes.
- Our service providers, described below, who process information on our instructions.
- Anyone we are legally required to disclose information to.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Service providers we use
| Provider | What it does | Where it processes information |
|---|---|---|
| Formspree | Receives your application and contact form submissions and delivers them to us by email. Submissions are also stored in our Formspree account | United States |
| Netlify | Hosts the 21230match.com website and keeps standard server logs, which include visitor IP addresses | United States, with a global content network |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the typefaces used on this website. Your browser requests them directly, which means your IP address reaches Google when a page loads | United States and elsewhere |
| Stripe | Takes and processes membership payments. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own secure page and never reach 21230. Stripe tells us your name, email address, the amount and the date, and sends you a receipt | Ireland and the United States |
| Our email provider | Delivers and stores the emails containing your application, and any replies between us | Depends on the provider, generally the United States and the EU |
| Video call software | Used for the verification call, where one is arranged. We do not record these calls | Depends on the software used for your call |
Information leaving Ireland and the EEA
Some of the providers above are based in the United States, so your information is transferred outside the European Economic Area. Those transfers rely on the safeguards each provider puts in place, which are generally the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and, where the provider is certified, the EU to US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us which safeguard applies to a particular provider and we will tell you what that provider has published.
How long we keep it
| Situation | How long we keep your information |
|---|---|
| Application not accepted | Up to 6 months from our decision, then deleted |
| Application accepted, but you never become active, or you go quiet | Up to 12 months from your last contact with us, then deleted |
| Active member | For as long as you are a member, and up to 12 months after you leave |
| General enquiry through the contact form | Up to 12 months |
| Payment and accounting records | 6 years, because tax and accounting law requires it |
| Records of a complaint, a safety concern or removal from the service | Up to 6 years, kept to the minimum needed, so that we can defend a legal claim and keep other members safe |
You can ask us to delete your information sooner, and we will unless we are required to keep it for one of the reasons above.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- have your information deleted;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it;
- receive the information you gave us in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time, which stops us using your information from that point onward without affecting what we did before you withdrew it.
Withdrawing consent means we can no longer consider you for introductions, and your application will be closed. Use the contact form to make any of these requests. We will not charge you and we will not treat you any differently for asking.
Complaining
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie, or to the supervisory authority in the country where you live.
How we protect your information
We take the following practical measures. We do not claim they make any system perfect, because no system is.
- The website is served over HTTPS, so what you type into the application form is encrypted in transit.
- Applications are delivered to a small number of accounts, each protected by a strong password. We are working toward two factor authentication on every account that touches applicant information.
- Access is limited to Aunty Flaky and anyone directly helping to run 21230.
- We do not publish applicant information, and we do not share it with another member without your agreement.
- We keep the amount of information we hold to what we actually need, and delete it on the timetable above.
We hold no security certifications and we do not claim any.
Cookies
This website does not set advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not track you across other websites. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, and your browser fetches typefaces from Google Fonts as described above.
Children
21230 is only for adults aged 21 to 30. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21. If you believe someone under 21 has applied, please tell us and we will delete their information.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your information in a way that matters, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and we hold your contact details, we will tell you directly.
A note on scope. This notice describes how 21230 handles your information as an application, membership and introductions service, including membership payments. If we change how we use your information in a way that matters, we will say so here first.
