21230 reviews every application personally and holds a private video verification call before arranging an introduction. These checks help us reduce risk, but no screening process can verify every statement a person makes or predict their future behaviour.
Members must continue to use their own judgment and take sensible precautions.
- Meet in a public place the first few times.
- Tell someone you trust where you are going and who you are meeting.
- Arrange your own transport, both there and home.
- Do not send money, and do not disclose bank details, card details or other sensitive financial information.
- Take your time. Anyone rushing you toward money, secrecy or a decision is telling you something.
- Report any concerning behaviour to 21230 immediately.
What our screening actually is
We want you to know exactly what we do, so that you can judge for yourself how much weight to put on it.
- Every application is read personally before anyone is considered for an introduction.
- Every applicant is asked to declare that they are currently single, and to confirm that their answers are accurate.
- We hold a private video call, which helps us confirm that a person is who they appear to be and gives us the chance to ask further questions.
- We do not share your information with a potential match without your consent.
What our screening is not
We think you deserve this stated plainly rather than buried.
- We do not carry out criminal record checks.
- We do not carry out employment, financial or credit checks.
- We do not carry out comprehensive background investigations.
- Whether somebody is genuinely single is based on their own declaration and on the information reasonably available to us. We cannot independently prove it.
Our review reduces risk. It cannot remove it. Anyone who tells you otherwise about any dating or matchmaking service is overselling.
Warning signs worth taking seriously
- Any request for money, a loan, a gift card, cryptocurrency or help with a financial problem, however plausible the story.
- Pressure to move the conversation to another platform immediately, or to keep the relationship secret.
- Refusing a video call, or repeatedly cancelling one.
- Details that keep changing, or that do not match what they told 21230.
- Anger, guilt or pressure when you set a boundary.
- Pushing to meet somewhere private, or to be collected from your home, before you are comfortable.
Telling us about a problem
If someone you have been introduced to behaves in a way that worries you, tell us. Use the contact form on the homepage, or reply to any email from us, and mark it urgent. We take reports seriously, we will speak to you about what happened, and we may remove a member from the service.
If you are ever in immediate danger, contact the emergency services in your country first. In Ireland and across the EU that is 112, or 999 in Ireland and the UK. Please do not wait to tell us first.
Where our responsibility sits
21230 facilitates introductions between adults. We do not control the decisions or conduct of members after an introduction has been made, and we cannot be present for what happens next.
Nothing in this notice excludes or limits any consumer rights or legal responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
